are five tasks that Christ ordained for His church to accomplish.
At FNHBC, we believe it is our duty to understand the purposes
Christ has for the church and to implement them:
LOVE THE LORD WITH ALL YOUR HEART
The word that describes this purpose is "WORSHIP".
The church exists to worship God (Matt. 4:10).
We must be able to worship before we can serve.
LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF
The word we use for this purpose is "MINISTRY".
When we reach out to others, we are demonstrating God s love by
ministering to spiritual, emotional, relational, and physical
needs "...equip the saints for the work of the ministry."
GO AND MAKE DISCIPLES
This purpose is called "EVANGELISM".
The church exists to communicate God's word. Jesus commissions
us to go and tell the world the message of Salvation. Matthew
Part of the command to make disciples, "baptizing them"
symbolizes the purpose of "FELLOWSHIP".
Baptism not only symbolizes our new life in Christ but visualizes
a person's incorporation into the body of Christ. Eph.
TEACHING THEM TO OBEY
This purpose is also called "DISCIPLESHIP".
The church exists to edify, or educate God's people. Discipleship
is the process of helping people become like Christ in their thoughts,
feelings and actions. As the church, we are called not only to
reach people, but also to teach them. Eph 4: 12b-13
