Rev. Dr. Kenneth Royal Washington left Shell Oil Company in 1983, to become self-employed as co- owner of Intercare; residential care facilities for the developmentally disabled. In 1989, he and his wife Karen, continued in the care of the developmentally disabled by opening and operating Royal Haven, Inc.  He is now employed at Nitsch Elementary School as a special Education teacher where he has been employed since 2007.

Dr. Washington is founder of Literacy Volunteers of America, Houston, Inc. , served as president of P.A.L. (Progressive Action League), and was one of the organizers of The Achievers , where he mentored black male students at Katy High School. Dr. Washington served as president of the Board of Oxford Counseling center, Houston, and has carried out numerous speaking engagements throughout the city of Houston.

As well as being dedicated in his service to the church, he has mentored many youth within and outside of the church. Through the years, he has provided a personal help ministry to his community, church and friends. Per Dr. Washington, The Lord blesses me to be a blessing to others. Dr. Washington claimed victory through Jesus in his battle with cancer in 1985.

Dr. Washington received a Bachelor of Science Degree from The University of Houston in 1978. He was granted the Degree of Master of Divinity at Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary in May 1996. The Degree of Doctor of Ministry was conferred upon him in May 2000 from Houston Graduate School of Theology.
At his home in 1996, Dr. Washington shared with his friends, a vision that the lord had given him to build a church with evangelism at it's core. In October 1996, he was established as Pastor of First New Hope Bible Church. In obedience to God, he came to Northwest Houston and located 5.92 acres of land, which the church acquired and is the present location of FNHBC and it's Community Development Corporation.

Dr. Washington is the devoted husband of Karen and the father of four girls: Bianca, Brandi, Khaila, and Kiirah. Dr. Washington has committed himself to the work of the ministry and is the Pastor of First New Hope Bible Church.
